Acne is by no means only a problem of teenagers. Although the skin disease occurs mainly at a young age, it always leaves acne scars. Autologous blood therapy? This is indeed what PRP treatment against acne and acne scars can be called. However, we do not work with the entire blood, but only with the PRP (plasma-rich platelets). The required serum is extracted from the blood by a centrifuge and initially consists mainly of thrombocytes. In combination with healing components as well as growth substances, a layer is created in the next step, which is medically called a “buffy coat” or in German a leukocyte film. This substance is used in PRP therapy for acne and works wonders.
But why does PRP work against acne? The answer lies in the fundamentally renewing and healing effect of the blood plasma. The skin builds up more collagen and connective tissue and renews itself from the inside out, as it were. In this way, scars are eliminated and in some cases the skin looks as if acne had never existed.
A PRP treatment against acne can be carried out by injecting it exactly where it is needed or in combination with micro-needling. The actual treatment takes between half an hour and an hour and can be carried out under local anaesthetic if desired. There is therefore no pain.
If you are treated with PRP against acne, you do not have to fear any side effects. At most, the affected areas of the skin will show redness, but this will disappear after a few days.
A PRP treatment against acne should initially be repeated at intervals of about four weeks. The decisive factor is a previous diagnosis and of course the severity of the acne or acne scars. The advantage, however, is that it does not need to be repeated at all, because once the scars have disappeared, they do not form again. Furthermore, PRP has a preventive effect on the formation of new acne and can slow it down or even stop it.
