How acne develops
The oily sebum clogs the glandular excretory ducts (pores) and an open blackhead (comedo) forms. As a result, corresponding bacteria in the hair sebum duct can no longer escape to the outside. These bacteria in combination with the enzyme found in the skin release aggressive fatty acids that attack the canal wall. However, since the drainage is not present, purulent pimples form.
Furthermore, keratinisation of dead cells at the excretory duct can cause the blockage. Special germs settle in the closed sebaceous gland duct and start the inflammatory process that leads to the pimple. Acne can also be triggered by external factors. These include environmental influences (climate), occupational contact with oils, fats or chlorinated hydrocarbons, medicines used internally or externally, contact with leather. Hormonal changes and “wrong” cosmetics or the interaction of sunlight with sunscreens.
Acne treatment
Acne is by no means “fate” or “you just have to go through it”. Compared to earlier times, dermatology has a large number of treatment approaches. There is something for every skin type, every age and every degree of severity. The “poking around” is usually of little use and the use of the “little remedies” advertised only benefits the manufacturer. A specialist should assess the success and, if necessary, change or intensify the treatment.
