How does a muscle relaxant work?

The way a muscle relaxant works is ultimately contained in its name. The relaxing effect and the real “relaxing” is achieved by a special protein. This is able to block the transmission of stimuli between nerve and muscle and the release of messenger substances. The result is a slow relaxation of the muscle and the associated smoothing of the surrounding wrinkles.

Why Botox for wrinkle treatment?

Anyone carrying out wrinkle treatment with a muscle relaxant should pay particular attention to so-called dynamic or mimic wrinkles. These are caused by movement and appear, for example, on the forehead or in the form of laugh lines or frown lines. Unlike wrinkles caused by a loss of volume, dynamic wrinkles can be perfectly eliminated by relaxing the muscles. Static wrinkles, on the other hand, are a case for hyaluronic acid.

Which areas of application are suitable for a muscle relaxant?

Not all wrinkles are equally suitable for wrinkle treatment with muscle relaxants. The focus is on forehead wrinkles that run horizontally and are intensified by the contraction of the forehead muscles as well as glabellar wrinkles or frown lines that appear between the eyebrows.Furthermore, the dreaded crow’s feet or eye wrinkles can also be treated, as various muscles are also responsible here.

The effects of muscle relaxants are by no means limited to the treatment of wrinkles. They can also be used to treat night-time teeth grinding (bruxism), underarm perspiration and migraines, and even face slimming, i.e. slimming the face.

What needs to be considered when treating wrinkles with muscle relaxants?

Wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin requires a little cooperation from the patient. It is important to maintain an upright posture for the first four to five hours after the procedure and to avoid the sauna or solarium as well as excessive physical exertion for a few days.

Risks and side effects only occur if the treatment is not carried out correctly, although these are only temporary. The substances are completely broken down in the body and only an overdose leads to a mask-like appearance.

How does wrinkle treatment with muscle relaxants work?

The first step in treatment with a muscle relaxant is to record the injection sites and then inject tiny amounts into the muscle. There are usually up to ten or slightly more sites and the treatment takes barely a minute. It is important that the injection sites are cooled for around ten minutes to prevent swelling. In order to maintain the full effect, a refresher treatment should be carried out after around three to six months – the effect of the individual treatment becomes apparent after around one to two weeks.
